PDA's and smart phones have been around for quite a while now, but it's only been with the recent worldwide release of Apple's 3G iPhone and subsequent similar devices from competitors, the use of mobile devices to browse the internet has significantly increased. This has of course been helped by the development and spread of related technologies such as 3G that allow much higher internet connection speeds than previous technologies.
The iPhone supports all the same basic functionality as any computer browser, just like the browser's on most PDA's and smart phones, however designing website's for these devices is often overlooked or not considered to be important since not many people use it. This is changing though so designing your website to be viewable on these devices is more important than ever.
On Thursday and Friday this week, I will be attending an iPhone / iPod Touch web application development workshop in Sydney. The purpose of this is to be taken through the technologies and features available in Apple's iPhone and is part of our ongoing aim to keep our web design services as up to date as possible, bringing you the best service possible. The design techniques that will be covered in these workshops will largely apply to other mobile devices as well, so I am looking forward to going over these technologies and developing on my current design knowledge to bring you better mobile website design.
As I am flying out of Brisbane at 6am on the 24th and getting back to Brisbane at 9pm on the 25th, I will be available by email over those two days. I will only be available over the phone minimally. Please don't hesitate to email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Have a great week!
Matt
