WordPress Speed Optimisation
Improve loading times & reduce errors
Website loading speed is vital to customer conversions
You have a website, but it probably isn’t loading quite as fast as it should be, especially on mobile. You might have setup WordPress yourself, or maybe a developer did it for you. Perhaps your WordPress theme was built from scratch, or you might have purchased a template like the popular Aveda, Divi or one of the millions of other themes available. Chances are, you’ve also got a whole bunch of plugins running on your site too.
Do you know what the impact of all these pieces is?
Is your WordPress website taking longer than 3 seconds to load?
If this isn’t something you have ever thought about before, then chances are, your website is taking more than 3 seconds to load.
Why is this important?
Slow loading websites get penalised
You might have noticed a decrease in website traffic, particularly from search. If you run paid ads, you might have seen an increase in your cost per click. Most importantly, you might be losing sales.
Websites that take more than 3 seconds to load have a much higher chance of users bouncing. This could be considered an unintentional penalty since every customer is different. However, search algorithm’s intentionally penalise slow loading websites.
Here’s what Google found:
Google isn’t the only one to study this.
Unbounce, a platform dedicated to building landing pages, has also done their research and found that 73% of users won’t wait more than 3 seconds before they leave.
Leading SEO figure, Neil Patel, did some research into the impact speed has on search rankings.
Running tests on the first 30 search results for different keywords, he found that the top results loaded significantly faster than those further down.
Multiple speed factors contributed to the overall loading speed, but in each case the fastest sites ranked above their slower counterparts
What's the solution?
Do it yourself
Speeding up your WordPress site will give you a boost in search results, improve your bounce rate and contribute to reducing your advertising costs.
There are tonnes of options available to optimise your website yourself. Plugins, speed tests, and of course dealing with code.
But, chances are, it’s not your area of expertise.
It’s taking you away from the things you do best, like building relationships with your customers and providing them with services they rave about.
Meanwhile, technology is changing and evolving. Is it really practical to keep across all the trends, developments, best practices and ensure your website is constantly optimised and loading as fast is it possibly can?
Get generic help
Some hosting companies include updates and monitor the server performance.
They are typically experienced and know what they are doing because they are doing it for thousands of other customers every day.
This also means that they may not be paying attention to the finer details of your website and business and are more concerned about ensuring your website doesn’t impact their other customers.
These hosting providers can offer you tips, and provide guides on how to get the most speed from your WordPress site on their platform.
