What does your website say when you search for it?

A website says a lot, but what does it say to anyone that is searching for it? Do they even consider looking at your website? Getting your website indexed by search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Live is one thing, but making sure they list what you want them to list is just as important.

I was looking for a particular item the other day and came across their website in the search results, what did it say?

"Sorry your browser does not support Iframes. Please update your browser in order to view our site properly. We recommend IE 5+ for both Mac and PC. Thanks!"

/Dev/World/2008 Developer Conference

Today, I will be leaving to head down to Melbourne to attend the /Dev/World/2008 conference on Monday and Tuesday, and subsequently my availability until I get back on Wednesday will be limited. I will be available by email all the time whilst I am there, and by phone minimally if necessary.

I expect the conference to be extremely beneficial as it goes into a variety of development topics, including:

What is Google Chrome and how does it compare to other browsers?

Google ChromeGoogle Chrome is the surprise open-source web browser from Google that was launched in beta form at the start of the month.

Chrome has a clean, minimalist interface and incorporates a lot of interesting features and benefits, some already available in other browsers, some not.

Where does your website go when you aren't looking? The importance of cross-browser compatibility

Your website looks great doesn't it? What does the rest of the world see though? When your back is turned and your website is out running wild through the data pipes that are the internet, does it still look great?

Maybe you browse the web using Internet Explorer, or Firefox, perhaps Safari or Opera, but how many browsers are there really and how does your website look to someone using a different browser to you?

If your website hasn't been designed with cross-browser compatibility in mind and tested in a variety of browsers, there is a good chance that your website won't look right in other browsers.

Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch Workshop Was Brilliant

The iPhone and iPod Touch web development workshop that I attended in Sydney on Thursday and Friday last week was excellent.

Apple iPhone Web Apps Workshop

Apple's iPhone

PDA's and smart phones have been around for quite a while now, but it's only been with the recent worldwide release of Apple's 3G iPhone and subsequent similar devices from competitors, the use of mobile devices to browse the internet has significantly increased. This has of course been helped by the development and spread of related technologies such as 3G that allow much higher internet connection speeds than previous technologies.
